Hello Windstar.

I see you have reached a good point anyway.

I have a RNS850 without SIM.

I just received my TPLink MR3020 router.

Could you make a summary of what you have done so far and possibly attach any script you have used or modified ?

I am not very expert in linux but possibly I can test them on my car.

Posté(e)

merci frankiegom

@NOY

Miazza,

just like windstar said, in your case if the RNS850 really works just like the MMI 3GP then the scripts should just work.

But be careful when you configure the router, as there is an error in the english part, at page 34, for the DHCP server configuration, the extra default GW parameter should be 3,192.168.1.254 instead of 3,192.168.1.254 (the french version is correct).

Also, as to the router firmware, ROOter has gone a loooong way since last year and MW 3.10 or 3.18 is no longer the recommended version, especially for a moving vehicle as the latest version (Golden Orb, or GO) has much improved disconnection detection and reconnection procedure, modem support et many other things...

Find it here

Configuration will be much the same, but the default interface layout has been changed. You can change it to the older interface in the systems menu.

In the meantime I executed the "read" script on my RNS850.

The DataPST.db size is highly different from the one the "write" script should put on the RNS850

mine 45.056 Bytes the one from the script 38.912 Bytes

Is there a tool to compare and edit these kind of *.db files ?

The script write.rar copy their DataPST.db, so you can put things back.

I'm using SQLite Expert Professional for editing DataPST.db.

I have noticed a bug about the gateway.

IP wifi router should be 192.168.2.1, respectively, and dhcp be 3,192.168.2.1

If you leave the value as a guide to 192.168.1.254 and 3,192.168.1.254 then rns not want to receive gateway - something does not work, a bug.

192.168.1.254 is the IP of the router on the WiFi interface, i.e the way to the Internet for SIMless MMI systems, and that is why it must be the default gateway on MMI 3GP systems.

If you need a different one on RNS850 while still using a router over WiFi interface for Internet access then there must be something very different in the RNS system to the MMI3GP.

If not, then can you explain how traffic directed to 192.168.2.1 gets routed to the Internet?

DataPST.db saved a list of radio stations (you have more saved radio stations), language settings, adaption channels (VCDS 255 channels) and your vin.

So it should be possible to extract differences and insert them in the DataPST.db you provided, right?

Posté(e)

frankiegom,

IP mmi (rns) 192.168.1.1
It is logical that the gateway must be on the same subnet with mmi, ie 192.168.1.254
In my case touareg is not working, we tested it on 3 machines if reserve 3,192.168.1.254 rns the gateway does not receive from the router openwrt. But it is necessary to change the ip wifi openwrt router 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.2.1 on the team and for dhcp c 3,192.168.1.254 on 3,192.168.2.1 rns and receives this gateway, pings to sites are in rns appears internet.
Despite the fact that different subnet in rns has internet, checked on 3 machines without sim.

If you do not believe me, tomorrow I'll do a photo a green menu (diag v 2.01.) - Show ip settings.

Regarding DataPST.db so - a file from a working system with sim card, just does not work google street view. What is in DataPST.db responsible for Google services for Audi, maybe you know?

Posté(e)

I believe you but still slightly confused and trying to get this right...

Our configuration with router IP 192.168.1.254 and router DHCP option 3,192.168.1.254 is OK for Audi MMI 3GP without SIM.

But on a Touareg RNS850,

you need to set router IP 192.168.2.1 and router DHCP option 3,192.168.2.1 to make it work?

or keep router IP 192.168.1.254 and change DHCP option 3,192.168.2.1?

Which one is it?

and do you still need installFairMode.sh or not?

thanks

Posté(e)

frankiegom,

Need to set router IP wifi 192.168.2.1 and wifi router DHCP option 3,192.168.2.1 to make it work and installFairMode also.
Ip router default 172.16.1.254

Another check mark should be put in the settings wifi dhcp openwrt
Force DHCP on this network even if another server is detected.

frankiegom,

Need to set router IP wifi 192.168.2.1 and wifi router DHCP option 3,192.168.2.1 to make it work and installFairMode also.

Ip router default 172.16.1.254

All clear now, thanks!

So, for Miazza, you need to take this into account and change the router WiFi configuration accordingly.

It would be interesting to find out whether that works on the MMI 3GP as well (192.168.2.0/24 is used in the 3GP as well)... Maybe if I have some spare time in the summer I can give it a try...

Another check mark should be put in the settings wifi dhcp openwrt

Force DHCP on this network even if another server is detected.

It seems to depend on the router used. When hsd92 made the scripts and the documentation, he did not need this on his router, but on mine I had to check the box.

I guess the doc will need to be upgraded at some point.

No, 3GP is 3GPlus aka 3G+. ;)

As I said, I believe you because I have no experience of the RNS850 in VW cars, but I am interested by the green menu screenshots. It can help understand the difference with Audi systems, and maybe even find new tricks... :)

What is in DataPST.db responsible for Google services for Audi, maybe you know?

Missed that question earlier...

In the Audi, there is not need to play with VCDS (or database) to enable Google Earth, everything can be done in the Green Menu.

The database script is only there to enable Green Menu and Traffic Online without VCDS.

Posté(e)

True but online traffic has been disabled server-side at Audi's HQ for MMI 3G+ not having built-in SIM ....

Hi all.

Sorry for not being present in the discussion.

I am abroad and for the time baing I can only study ... no access to my Touareg :(.

I have checked the link for Router OpenWRT FW but it is not clear which is the latest: For 3020 it seems V1: ofmodemsandmen.com/download/GoldenOrb/mr3020-v1-GO2016-04-01.zip. Correct ?

I will correct the pdf by hands in order to include all the suggestion in the latest posts.

Thanks.

windstar,
you should try to use my DataPST.db and see whether the active google earth, so we have chores. You can always return back to your DataPST.db via write the script.

We must push install fair mode in the green menu.

And what firmware version you have and maps ?

You have to check the label on the router. It will tell you what HW version it is. Then you can pick the corresponding firmware.

Posté(e)

@NOY: as written before K0821 and 6.22.3

I uninstalled fair mode before applying the modifications of the DataPST.db

I will try first reinstalling fair mode in the green menu and if doesnt help I will try the DataPST.db from You.

No available Data for Google Earth"

Yes, sadly.

Regarding tmc online, I'm not saying that this is not possible, I have it worked until 30.05.2016 and i used audi values, and was blocked audi server.

For tmc online requires a value

32783 in adaption channel 69 (vcds) or the value of 32783 to 40960 tb_intvalues file DataPST.db

And the correct values in tb_stringvalues DataPST.db file

Try install fair mode again and restart rns

Yes, language is English and you will see my list of radio stations.

Other settings green menu should be in the MMI-3GP-odiconnect-v1.0.pdf

Next, you should try to press the green menu

googleearth install gemmi persistent, then restart rns.

Do the following photo of green menu and show me.

If you have router mr 3020 use this firmware openwrt - Peppy Snowdrop 2.3.2

2) KEY 40960 value 32783 --> What is this for ? What was default value ?

3) KEY 4100 value 1 --> This I understood is for green manu activation and it worked well (after FW update green menu was gone)

For Activation Traffic Online do I have also to:

VCDS
5F Infotainment
Adaptation
Chanel 69
existing value plus 32768

?

Posté(e)

Not sure what the first key is for, but the second one is for Traffic Online activation (15 + 32768), replaces the VCDS step.

You should now configure the router and then run the diagnostic script. It should tell you if the Internet connection works...

Posté(e)

It would be interesting to find out whether that works on the MMI 3GP as well (192.168.2.0/24 is used in the 3GP as well)... Maybe if I have some spare time in the summer I can give it a try...

Had a quick test this morning (moving the router WiFi network from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.2.1) and no joy at first.

Will check some more this evening if time allows before reverting to original configuration, but this seems to be another difference between Audi MMI 3GP and VW RNS850...
