I tried to get my WIFI on my Audi Q5 working with the Tutorial.

I bought all parts and i followed the instruction of your french collegue. I'm using the WIFI Version with a 3G stick on the MR3020/GoldenOrb.

My FW in the MMI is K767, installed the WIFI script (22x passed) and changed all the needed configuration in the green menu.

 

Now: Audi Connect and Google is working fine with a 3G stick and also I've tried the Android Tethering Version. Both are working fine.

 

My ISSUE: When I'm trying to connect my smartphone (iphone7) or my notebook or anything else which can be connected to the MMI WIFI and trying to get connection with the WorldWideWeb, my complete configuration crashes, no ping, no Internet, no AudiConnect, no Connection to the router.

My configuration on my iphone is good, iphone gets via DHCP a valid IP address, both DNS servers are listed in the phone.

When there is no 3g stick or tethering plugged in, the iphone can open the MR3020 webinterface, so the connection from the iphone <->MMI<->MR3020 seems to be ok for the moment.

For a better understanding i've uploaded 3 videos:

 

1.) IMG_3880.mp4: shows my configuration from MMI and MR3020. I disabled the usage for the LAN Interface for this time.. The issue is the same like the french configuration with LAN for 172.16.... The video ends with trying to connect the iphone and opening a webpage on it.

2.) IMG_3881.mp4: shows the crash and the ping is dead

3.) IMG_3882.mp4: shows the same behavior, trying to connect on a webpage with my notebook.

For the time beeing, i'm not sure what could be the issue. The configuration is 1:1 from the documentation.

Are there any other configuration in the green menu that will effect my issue?

Are there a special configuration for the Android Tethering or 3G Stick neccessary in terms of Firewall or routing, or gateway?

Everything you've done looks good, so I'll go straight to a specific point... power

How do you power the MR3020 and modem? What brand/model is then modem?

 

My assumption is that as you ramp up traffic, the modem starts pumping more power than the router can supply and the router fails and reboot.

You can log in the router and check uptime, that will confirm whether it really rebooted.

 

Next things is you can get some real cheap USB meters that will tell you how much power is being drawn by the router or the modem.

 

IF you end up confirming power is your issue, I would suggest a powerful brand USB power adapter for the car and a good, short, USB cable to plug the router in. Better still, get a good Y cable so you can plug the modem into power (make that USB power adapter a two port one) in parallel to the router so it does not need to get its power from the router.

 

When I started playing with my MMI initially I had no end of problem that amounted to my power supply not being up to the task. I replaced everything and solved mostof my problems at once. Just avoid the quick charge power adaptors as I have found the small routers did not like it too much (I've fried 3 TP-Link and 1 Nexx last year!!)

The MR3020 and the modem are powered at the moment directly from the cigarette lighter close to the ashtray in the Q5 8R. They are powered with the Kingston 1x1A/1x2.1A cigarette to USB adapter. I think this power must be enough, right?

I tried 2 different modem versions: E3131 with Modem FW and the E3372 as HighLink. Both are working well with Online Connect (Audi Connect/Google Earth) only. Today i tried to add an android smartphone with usb tethering on the mr3020 to eleminate a "maybe" issue with the modem. But this doesn t' matter.

Your diagram does not correspond to what I advise...

 

One key issue is the ability of the router to power the modem. Please note that USB 2 is only rated for 500mW (though some implementation may provide more) and the modem may need more, but also the power draw frmo the router into you power adapter is limited by router circuitery and may not be enough to power some router/modem combination.

The Huawei modem I used at first, the e3276s is known to be a power hog and can draw in excess of 1A when running fast. That was clearly too much for my setup, causing all sorts of weird problems when the router rebooted unexpectedly.

 

While I cannot guarantee your issues are caused by power supply, the better way to power your setup is to use a USB Y cable, with at one end the connector you plug the modem into, and at the other end, 2 connectors, one going into the router and the other into the USB power adaptor. Then in parallel the router plugs into another port of the power adaptor.

 

I am not convinced from the pictures you showed that you own such a cable for the modem, but it will guarantee that both the router and the modem get adequate power.

No, not really... you get the same problem with a laptop or an iPhone so the issue should not be the devices which only leaves he trouter in the equation.

 

There are ways to plug in a laptop in the router to collect logs live through the LAN port, maybe finding out what happens in the router when it fails will help?

 

Can you borrow another model router, or try even an AC powered one with the same firmware and configuration to compare?

Puhh, I'm able to start a terminal and to telnet to the router. Then my unix knowledge is at the end :-)

In the router itself its not possible to start a logging or debug output to the console or ethernet port. Maybe somebody knows the commands to log via terminal all traffic?

 

Bad, I have no other chance to borrow or get another router.

I think the issue must be localized between the MMI and Router connected via WIFI. Google and Audi Connect are working, the connection between MMI and Router is established. Nameserver is set and also able to ping. From the time on, when a device is connected to the MMI WIFI it starts crashing. Are there any other possible setting which could be wrong in the green menu for the DHCP or WIFI of the MMI?

I don't think, but maybe an update to K942 will help?

I have found the issue:

After enabling the WIFI on my iphone7 (ios 11.02), all is dead. Can't ping any longer the MMI nor the Router itself. It will also not help to disable the WIFI on iphone again.

 

I tried an Android phone and my notebook, both are working well with this hardware.

 

The received DHCP values on my notebook, android and iphone are ok.

Could it be that there is an issue with the MMI K767 FW and and iphone7 (ios11)?

I will try to find another iphone7, another FW and so on...

Seems to be very strange?

 

One remark:

If the UMTS/LTE stick is not plugged in the router, the WIFI on the iphone can be enabled and able to open the webinterface. But UMTS stick plugged in and enabling WIFI on iphone will crash. Maybe another issue?

Short Update:

 

What i have tested now:

 

1) iphone7 - enabling WIFI on iphone 7 ends in complete connection lost. No Ping, No Internet, no Online Connect

2) iphone 4 - all works up to 3-5 min. Than the same problem, no ping, no internet, no online connect.

3) Samsung S3mini - all works up to 15 min. Than the same problem, no ping, no internet, no online connect.

4) No Wifi Clients connected to the MMI WIFI -> Online Connect works properly >30min (max. tested time)

 

Seems to be there is a real problem with the DHCP? Don't know how to get forward.

There is a diagnostic script (actually there are two versions, on that runs from the sdcard with output in file and one that installs and replaces green menu ip config menu).

 

It would help if you can run it before and after the problem ocurs. I'll check if I can get you my version with a few more checks.

PS l audi connect fonctionne sans aucun soucis parking prix carbu etc sa roule.

 

donc tester dans un Q5 avec un S8 Note et dans un q7 avec un iphone et meme résultat si quelqu un a ce problème ou la solution vous etes les bienvenu ^^

J'ai rebooté le MMI 3G+ (par le 3 touches) et j'ai eu le même message que toi "voulez vous repasser à la carte standard ?"

 

Autre précision :

Je te réponds ici avec le pc portable. Au lancement du navigateur sous Win7 et Firefox ma page d'accueil est google. Message d'erreur par contre j'ai bien accès au autre page de recherche...

 

Tout cela me fait dire que le mal ne vient pas de nos MMI boutiqués mais de la source commune à savoir le NET

J'espère qu'ils n'ont pas décommissioné l'accès au serveur Google Earth. J'ai lu il y a quelques semaines qu'Audi arrêtait la coopération avec Google, j'espère qu'ils n'ont pas viré l'option pour toutes les voitures déjà vendues.

J'ai pensé aussi à la fin du service Audi connect du fait de la fin du partenariat avec Google mais je pense que c'est plutôt pour 2018

D'après une idée qui me vient comme cela : Les premiers véhicules en audi connect sont de 2012 donc sous licence 3 ans donc en 2015 et si les renouvellements ont été fait alors cela porte en 2018....

Par contre il me semble que l'option licence (magasin audi) n'est plus vendue.....

Bon j'ai fait quelques essais, J'ai vidé le cahe du GEMMI, fait un restart, désactivé réactivé, GEMMI , quand je relance le Navi il se connecte 5 secs à Google earth puis me remet le message pour revenir au standard

Je viens d'avoir l'info comme quoi Google retiré son service de Google earth et Google street view sur Audi. Il s'agit d'un sujet sensible chez audi. On va etre bien avec notre VC et l'affichage 2D type amiga.

Ce qui change concrètement :

- Les nouvelles voitures n'auront plus l'option dispo (tous les services liés à Google en fait).

- Certains verront le service s’arrêter fin 2017 malgré un service audi connect valable 3 ans (ce qui est mon cas et c'est le cas qui pose le plus de problème à Audi logique).

- D'autres verront le service s'arreter à la fin du contrat de 3 ans (dans mon cas 08/19) et ne sera pas reconductible.

Bravo à Audi qui met en avant certaines fonctionnalités et qui au final les retirent. Je ne sais pas comment ils vont se dépétrer de cette affaire car en tant que client payer 3000€ un MMI advanced + VC avec un affichage google map basique ca fait mal.

De plus au niveau du reglage du caisson de basse du B&O, ils nagent totalement. Le problème viendrait de B&O car audi sous traite cette partie. Donc les ingé doivent surement attendre un retour de B&O sur les véhicule FL construits entre fin 06/16 au 01/17. Autant dire qu'il ne doit pas y en avoir des masses des A3 avec BO dont les propriétaires se plaignent de ne pas avoir la fonctionnalité sur une période aussi restreinte.

sa serais pas mal en effet mais j ai l impression que la co es en fonction de ton wauzz,car j ai des potes pouq ui sa marche encore en (legit)
