The new V10-equipped Audi S8 will arrive in the United States in fall of 2006, the automaker said today.

The Lamborghini-sourced ten-cylinder engine that powers the S8 delivers 450 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 540 Nm (approximately 397 ft.-lbs.) of torque — the latter available from just 3,500 rpm — from a capacity of 5.2 liters.

As on the Le Mans winning R8, FSI gasoline direct injection assures superior power output in the Audi S8.

This luxury sedan sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, and is electronically governed at 250 km/h (approximately 155 mph).

The driveline and aluminum chassis of the S8 have been modified to suit the engine’s power. The latest generation of quattro permanent all-wheel drive with asymmetric/dynamic torque split transmits this power to all four wheels.
