Volkswagen confirms 2-door coupe in the works

Volkswagen has seemingly confirmed plans to build a 2-door coupe.

 

The company issued a media release at SEMA stating, “VW’s current technical strengths and enriched model lines are simply one wave of a torrent of new models, including a new Passat with a larger, more powerful V6, the next GTI, the Eos hardtop convertible, and, further down the line, a 2+2 sport coupe that hearkens to the heyday of the Scirocco.”

Recently, there has been much speculation regarding the name of the rumored coupe. Possibilities have included Rivo, Corrado, and Scirocco. While its unclear what name Volkswagen will use, we feel the above statement adds credibility to rumors that the automaker might revive the Scirocco nameplate.
