Merci d'avance

Hello guys, I tried to open an AP on my TL-MR3020 and I followed the tutorial on the ROOter site: http://www.ofmodemsandmen.com/guestwifi.html

Unfortunately, the wifi SSID is not appearing in the list of available SSID.

I tried in all the possible ways but I did not manage.

May be this is something related to the paricular configuration of our use .

I remember someone managed to do this on this forum but I could not find anymore the instruction.

This tutorial is for connecting in client mode to another hotspot, not for AP mode. And sonce you are already connected to the MMI in client mode it can not work.

What version of ROOter are you using?

Yes frankiegom, this is quite easy.

Now I have RNS850 that get internet access from router TL-MR3020 in client mode (GE is working well etc...).

The problem is that if I try to connect my mobile to the AP of RNS850 I do not have access to internet (probably there is an firewall blocking and I do not know how to bypass it).

I thought that an easier way might be to open a AP on the router side so that my mobile can connect to that AP and have free access to internet.

The problem is that after having configured the AP on the router side, this is not visible (no SSID).

I am doing all the tests at home without having MR3020 client connected to RNS850 so I am not sure that the AP should show anyhow (radio 0 is reserved and shared with the client connected to the car).

I hope I have been clear otherwise ask me :)

OK, that is what I expected. All I can say is that it should work, but because I have a Hilink modem in the car I never had to try this configuration.

But it is possible that the mr3020 has issues when you try to use the radio both ways, though the guest hostpot mode in ROOter shows it should be workable (but for the RNS850 connection mode, I'm afraid it would mean full manual configuration, not easy).

My suggestion, if you haven't done it that way yet:

- reset from factory to start fresh (keep a backup of the current working config so you can go back)

- configure the AP mode the way you want it so you can connect your laptop/smartphone to it

- plug in the modem, and configure so it provides Internet access to the laptop

- add the client mode interface, scan for your home hotspot, make the changes to that interface as if it was the car hotspot (IP Address, DHCP Etc... everything from the cookbook)

- Check that AP mode still work from the laptop

- then you can edit the wireless config file in /etc/config/wireless to replace your home SSID with the RNS850 SSID, and modify security parameters accordingly (you can copy that part from your working backup, just the needed lines)

- make sure you remove the bssid line, or replace with the value from the car backup or it will not connect to the car

- go in the car, connect and check (plug laptop in router lan, and take some readings, ie route, ifconfig, logread, dmesg commands)

And for any specific additional router questions, move to the other forum for ROOter as you will have more chance of an answer. You can always come back here to document the fix once you have it! ;)

WOW. good idea, I did not thing about this.

I have already posted in the ROOTer forum other questions and I'm waiting answers before to ask again :)

For the moment thank you very much I will apply for this job in the new year and will be back to document the fix (if fixed :))

You're welcome.

There's one more thing you could do to help testing out of the car if you have a spare router, which is to configure one to look like the RNS850 at network level (same network config, ssid/security etc...) including the changes to make Audi connect work (except there is no Audi connect).

Then, if you make sure bssid line for car hotspot is removed, you can really test as if in the car fro the other router! ;)

Just a short update and fina fix of my issue.

I updated ROOter FW to the latest. Starting with a fresh install I followed you seggestion but as soon as I created the client with an hotspot, the AP disappeared.

This is in line with my previous thought ... the client and the AP share the same radio 0 and therefore the client has a priority in choosing the signal channel etc...

After that I modified the client SSID to match the one of the car and created the new AP.

The new AP is available only when the client is connected otherwise to AP.

The ROOter tutorial therefore is perfectly working and tested for few hours in the car :)

Good news the tutorial is working for you!

For clarity, when you added the AP to the router configuration, did it work? One of the trick is probably making sure both AP and client share the same channel...

And is the MMI AP working now or still not providing connection?

For the record I did a quick test here with another router (Nexx wt3020) and the AP disappeared when client connected to MMI as well...

And could you share a backup of your working config via private message, please (just modify wifi password in wireless file)?

When I added the AP with the client connected to the home SSID, the AP was present.

As soon as I modified the client SSID to match the CAR one, the AP was not shown.

When in the car, client correctly connected and the AP started to be visible.

Yes, probably if both AP and client share the same channel, AP might work even without the client connected.... to be tested but in "Auto" way I am sure the car connects.

MMI AP still allows connection but no way to ping google... firewall in the car is most probable responsible.

The back-up is on another PC but I will PM it as soon as I can.

Need to find out what channel the MMI is using and force the AP to that, then check if that works better, I guess...

The way it works is that the DHCP in the router provides IP to connected devices, in the range 192.168.1.20-50. That also provides the correct gateway 192.168.1.254.

But if the device gets it's IP from MMI (range 192.168.100-110), then the gateway is the MMI 192.168.1.1 and it does not work!

Can you check that your IP is ~192.168.1.1xx and not ~192.168.1.2x when it does not work on the MMI hotspot?

We need to find a way to make sure DHCP only comes from the router...

MMI IP: 192.168.1.1

MMI IP by DHCP 0.0.0.0

MMI Gateway:

DNS: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4

Google Earth

Cache 4%

Check OdiWifi confirmation:

OK 6/6 files

Test IP

OK 192.168.1.254 Average: 2ms

Merci d'avance.

MMI IP by DHCP 0.0.0.0

MMI Gateway

Merci d’avance.
